Bee yourself…

In the Media Library of the Essential Course I found an mp3 from Don Moen talking about being yourself when leading worship. It really made me laugh out loud. He spoke about a scene from the story of Aladdin.

When Aladdin tries to impress the princess with good behaviour, a noble appearance and wealth, he almost collapses under the weight and pressure of his own self-given fake identity. So he suddenly realizes: it doesn´t really work. And just in that moment Genie whisperes in his ear: Bee yourself, Aladdin!

Sometimes, I think , we  are maybe a little bit like Aladdin. We want to impress the church by being someone else, to hide our fragileness, insecurities or maybe brokeness. We adapt a fake identity and then expect God to bless that and call it forth.

But God will bless who we are and not who we want to be.Thanks Don Moen..;)

Essential Course Week 3

“We are made to create”

I love the idea that God on purpose created human beings as sub-creator. He could have easily made us as human beings without any talent or longing to create. But human beings want to create, they want to build, explore…It´s part of our nature.

I personally like to create drawings. I like to draw people, mostly their faces or hands. I like to look at every detail, the facial features, the eyes, the symmetry and the depth of their glaze. What I create on paper is beautiful to me.
As a kid I used to to draw pictures and then proudly present them to my parents, in order to get “wow well done” or something like that. Most of time only I could recognize what I drew but I needed approval in order to carry on.

God must have felt the same way( or much better) when creating our world. He looked at every detail and saw that it was good. And then he presented this earth to us, human beings so that we can enjoy and marvel at his wonderful creation. So the natural reaction would have been “Worship”. Simply adore him for what he is and what he has created.

But many human beings refuse to do that. They are out of balance because they forgot how to worship. They try to manage their relationships without a clue what real relationship is about. They try to lead people without a clue what leadership is all about. And then they try to love people without a clue what love is all about.

Yet God does not need our approval, but he longs for it. The creator likes to be adored by the created.
N.T.Wright talks about “the circle of love” God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit form together. As a christian spiritual being, the holy spirit lives in us and so we are able to join this circle. Not by ourselves but through God´s sacrifice and restoration in his son, so we can be fully human again in HIM.
